The Dordogne valley is an area of Southern France, it is located in the Aquitaine region which borders Spain. Dordogne is between the Loire Valley and the Pyrenees, the Dordogne river runs through this beautiful valley which is extremely popular with British tourists and ex-pats. This area of France was under Bitish rule for nearly 400 years and it still holds a strong attraction to the British. The British made up 47% of international property buyers buying property in Dordogne during 2012.
The Dordogne river rises on the flanks of Puy de Sancy (1 885 m) in the mountains of Auvergne, from the confluence of two small torrents above the town of Mont-Dore: the Dore and the Dogne. It flows generally west about 500 km through the Limousin and Périgord regions before flowing into the Gironde, its common estuary with the Garonne, at the “Ambès beak”, in the north of the city of Bordeaux.
